This

sponsor and support.
The
rug and sword box presentation was finally held on 26 March and went
very well. In attendance were Al Bowen and Bob
Ellis a 7th Co classmate and Annapolis friend of his, and Mary
Keener, Baldy Dale's care provider in his final years ; Al White
and Camille Metzger, who had provided her husband's, Bob's sword for
one of those in the dispay box; and, of course, yours
truly. Bob Horner, provider of the other sword did not feel up to
making the trip from Florida, but promises to do his best to make it to
the reunion.
All the Mids in the company
gathered in the corridor outside the wardroom and Al White intoduced
myself and Al Bowen to give
our spiels about the items being presented. I read two short
biographies of the sword providers and followed a few words of life
advice to
the Mids from Bob Horner. Al Bowen followed with the story of how
the rug came to be and how it ended up with the Sixth Co.
The Mids were aprreciative and
afterward most of them stopped to shake our hands and offer their
thanks. The presentation group
then repared to the wardroom where pictures were taken of the rug which
had already been hung on the wall and of the sword box.
I particularly would like to remark on
the effective and professional work of Capt. O'Connell and the Mids
which resulted in an
exceptionally smooth operation from start to finish. We
octogenarians don't do hassels well!
Herewith three photos from my camera
